Chamomile Chill

Let’s talk sleep. I know it’s one of my favorite topics, but it’s so damn crucial to performing at your best each and every day. There’s a ton of sleepy girl mocktails going viral out there, but here’s one that’s light, refreshing, and won’t spike your blood sugar- something I definitely don’t want to interfere with my sleep! Let’s dive in to some of it’s helpful ingredients.

Getting an adequate amount of quality sleep each night is crucial for proper cognitive function, emotional well-being, and physical health. During sleep, the body repairs and rejuvenates itself, consolidates memories, and regulates hormones. Chronic sleep deprivation can lead to a multitude of negative consequences, including impaired brain function, weakened immune system, and increased risk of developing chronic conditions such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Prioritizing a consistent sleep schedule and creating a restful sleep environment are essential steps toward maintaining optimal health and promoting longevity. Magnesium plays a crucial role in promoting healthy sleep patterns. This essential mineral is known to regulate neurotransmitters involved in sleep and relaxation, such as GABA. By helping to calm the nervous system and reduce stress, magnesium can enhance sleep quality and duration. Additionally, magnesium is involved in the production of melatonin, a hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle. Research suggests that magnesium supplementation may improve sleep efficiency, reduce insomnia symptoms, and enhance overall sleep quality. Incorporating magnesium-rich foods or taking supplements can be a beneficial addition to a sleep-promoting routine.

Chamomile is also widely recognized for its potential to improve sleep quality. As a caffeine-free herbal tea, chamomile is often consumed before bedtime to promote relaxation and alleviate insomnia symptoms. Its calming properties are attributed to the presence of apigenin, an antioxidant that binds to specific receptors in the brain, reducing anxiety and initiating sleep. Research suggests that chamomile may not only improve sleep latency but also enhance overall sleep efficiency. Incorporating chamomile into your nightly routine could potentially lead to a more restful and rejuvenating night's sleep.

Normally, I love a warm cup of tea before bed. But in the Summer months, the last thing I want is a hot drink. I’ve been sipping this calming cooler watching the sun set, and it puts me in the perfect state for a good night’s sleep. Check out the recipe below, and chill the f*ck out.

  • While I think the Lemon Sparkling Water tastes amazing in this recipe, you’re welcome to use Plain Club Soda. Sure, you could try other flavors, but I really like the chamomile flavor to come through, so I wouldn’t necessarily suggest anything to powerful.
